so i am reading this book for the third time, it is one of my Favorites. It is filled with God, yet shown in a raw and real way. Seeing God through real life and experiences along the Road. Funny i use the Road as a life analogy because "Through Painted Deserts" is about a road trip that is more like an epic journey. Every time i read it i feel the need to move on, to let go of everything i know and head out with just the God of this Crazy universe as my companion. The whole way learning the lessons that The Creator has for me. Because that is what life is about, it isn't about Money or Sex, and it isn't even about going to church on sunday and listening to the word, or worship, or righteousness, or whatever other spiritual discipline you can think of. Life is about you getting to know YHWH. (YaHWeH) It is about learning from Him and building your life around what He wants. And yes, Money, Sex, Community (the newest christian buzzword), Worship, Hearing the Word, and being righteous are all a part of that process. They are all designed to help us Know God more and Learn from Him. As Rob Bell has Said, and even did a tour on the subject, Everything is spiritual. There is an idea out there that if it is True, it is from the God who created us. In the gospels Jesus boldly proclaims to be the truth. He really takes it much farther than that by saying he is the Way the Truth and The Life. Oh how many times we skim that statement when reading through the Scripture and just let the words roll off of our tongue as if we were reading a Harry Potter book. As if to just bypass the beauty and meaning in that phrase and get to the part where he dies. We walk along this path of life, and if we have Jesus, we have the way, the road map, the GPS. If we have Jesus we have the truth, no matter where in the journey we find truth, we find Jesus right there with it. Whether it be in a book by the greatest Christians to ever walk the face of the earth, or the atheist down the street who likes to make you angry. In the church or in the Bar the truth, if it really is true, it is Christ. And if we have Jesus, we have The Life. we don't just have a life or some life, but the life. He is our sustainer and provider, our comforter and healer. That is someone we should Strive to know, that is someone we should run after when we feel like we have wandered from them. And we should Follow Him into the Pits of Hell because we trust him enough to know we will come out okay, or in death we will be victorious. "in a true revolution, you win or you die" Che Guevera.
