Rob Bell's new book, Jesus wants to Save Christians, talks alot about Empire's, and building 20,000,000 dollar church buildings when there are many other uses for that.
He talks about how We live in Babylon.
Well if that is the case, The Catedral Metropolitana in Mexico City is its whore. Golden plated everything from floor to ceiling, Gold plated Saints, Gold plated atrocities. The catholic Church builds its empire by duping its followers into thinking we have to pay for our sins.
In case you haven't heard, Jesus paid it all.
Your money is no good to Him.
He doesn't need us when the whole earth and universe spins on the tip of his finger. It just goes to show you where our priorities really are. Large cathedrals with things inside that please the human eye, but nothing inside that pleases the creator.
He doesn't want our Gold,
He doesn't want our Money,
He just wants us. Every Bit of us,
Our Hearts,
Minds,
Spines and Spleens.
He deserves it, he bought it,
paid for us and set us free.
I don't know why, I can't pretend to understand it.
But that is what happened.
And here we are whoring ourselves out for the things of this world. Just like in Hosea.
We did go to another Santa Muerte shrine. It may have been on tuesday, but I am lumping it into with wednesday. The first shrine we went to is not for the average person. It is pretty radical. The Second shrine we went to was a little more tame. They actually had 2 pictures of the Muerte. One with skin, as the angel of death, and one without skin, as the muerte. We could actually walk into this place without fearing for our lives. Pastor and Jonathan struck up a conversation with the priest. Who happens to be from Texas training to bring this back with him. Just to let you know, Muerte is here in America too. You can find her on the back of cars, as a sticker. but I havn't seen any shrines. But this would be like the Americanized version, attempting to blend the evil into the culture. The priest states he can prove Muerte through scripture, He said it is in Genesis somewhere and that we could buy his book for 100 pesos to find out how she is there. I have read genesis a few times, and there is no angel of death there. Exodus maybe, but he is not a very good bible interpereter if that is where he says she comes from.
Back to Tepito, this time to the Black Market. Seven square miles of anything you want, and it is usually either bootlegged or stolen. everything from Clothes to Refrigerators, Christian Cd's to pornography. They have everything. We couldn't bring our passports and things, because they would probably end up being sold there. We made some very good contacts that day, rummaging through the stolen Clothes, speaking with the vendors. God was definitely with us on this trip.
